  1930s to the present is presented. The connection is traced both at the l
 evel of research topics and at the level of interpersonal relations betwee
 n representatives of the Kyiv school of theoretical physics\, founded by M
 .M. Bogolyubov\, and the Kharkiv school of theoretical physics\, founded b
 y L.D. Landau and O.I. Akhiezer. The main attention is paid to the interse
 ction of research topics in statistical physics of both schools\, in parti
 cular\, to the methods of statistical physics in the theory of irreversibl
