Description
Effective field theories (EFTs) allow for a systematic description of processes at a particular energy scale, even for strongly interacting systems where no small coupling constants exist. EFTs link scattering and matter, topics of a great tradition of research at BITP. I will discuss two contemporary systems where structure emerges from essentially one parameter: $^4$He atoms and nucleons.
