Description
The "genealogy" of theoretical physics in Kharkiv from the beginning of the 1930s to the present is presented. The connection is traced both at the level of research topics and at the level of interpersonal relations between representatives of the Kyiv school of theoretical physics, founded by M.M. Bogolyubov, and the Kharkiv school of theoretical physics, founded by L.D. Landau and O.I. Akhiezer. The main attention is paid to the intersection of research topics in statistical physics of both schools, in particular, to the methods of statistical physics in the theory of irreversible processes.
